Patience

June 20th, 2008

As I sat down to write a post tonight, I had in my hand a partially eaten Good Humor ice cream bar.   Dudley, ever hopeful, ever patient, sat to my left with his head resting on my left arm, gazing wistfully at the frosty dark chocolate and slowly melting ice cream.   I spoke softly, “No, Duds.   This is mine.” and gave my arm a little shove, hoping to send him across the room to lie down.   Instead the movement and my ill-timed bite broke the hard chocolate shell and half the ice cream bar skittered down my shirt and onto the floor, where a gleeful Dudley inhaled it in one gulp.

Patience rewarded.

Ah, a good metaphor for the last week of this pregnancy.   I will get a baby at the end of it.   It might come tomorrow, it might be ten days (or more!) from now, but eventually that shell is going to crack and a baby is going to come tumbling out.   One way or another, I will get to hold my little one in my arms!   And it doesn’t matter if it’s early or late, c-section or natural, painful or easy, it’s really going to happen.

Thanks, Dudley.

Aren’t all babies the most precious things! Dudley is adorable. Hey, why not post pics of Dudley and Kenny at the same ages? You could do that during the night when you are unable to sleep due to too much baby and too little room for internal organs. Soon you will not even care about what you have gone through and will be considering doing it again because something happens to parents that multiplies their love with each child – causing a yearning to hold more little ones. Soon you will be laughing about all these pregnant moments . Well- maybe later rather than sooner. Take care little one. Love, Aunt Syl

I have so enjoyed reading about your pregnancy and life. It reminds me so much of my recent experience with my son (now 6 months old). Good luck with these last few days. Have fun on this wonderful journey you have already started!

You should try to do the labor inducing massage. I was EXACTLY like you at the end of my now 7 month olds pregnacy. She came two weeks early because of labor inducing massage. You just need to google “labor inducing massage”. It shows you where and how to massage certain points of your body. One is between your thumb and pointer finger, one in your ankle and one in your back. My friends made fun of it, but guess what it works! 🙂 I was just trying to avoid another ten pound baby and I did!
